Beyond the Basics: Advanced Gel Printing

Suited for those familiar with the fundamentals of gel plate printing and wish to learn more advanced techniques. Topics will include resist and transfer printing using a variety of methods, such as laser prints of drawings or photographs. Participants will also learn how to do charcoal drawing transfers, use of Pan Pastels, and reverse printing.

Finished prints may be used in collage for wall art or on a smaller scale for cards or journals. Students will need to bring a gel plate, paper, brayer, acrylic paints, and some high-quality laser prints (detailed list will be provided upon registration).

About the instructor

Jennifer Love has been an artist and teacher for over 40 years. She studied textile arts at Capilano College in North Vancouver and was a founding member of Foxglove Fibre Arts Studio/Gallery on Bowen Island. She has participated in numerous exhibitions on the Sunshine Coast, Bowen Island, Vancouver, and Vancouver Island.

Hand-painted and printed fabrics or papers are fundamental to Jennifer’s art practice. While she uses a myriad of different techniques and tools to create them, in recent years she has become increasingly enthralled with the possibilities inherent in monoprinting with a gel plate. She works intuitively, embracing the unanticipated results of a printing session as well as the happenstance juxtaposition of collage elements.

An enthusiastic instructor for over 40 years, Jennifer has taught numerous surface design workshops - including introductory and advanced monoprinting on a gel plate, and collage - in Calgary, Sechelt, Duncan, Gibsons, Pender Harbour, Saltspring Island, Bowen Island, Fort St John, and Vancouver.
