Intro to multi-colour woodcuts with Richard Tetrault

Discover the art of relief printmaking in this hands-on workshop using MDF woodblocks to create original prints in a variety of colours. Guided by the spirit of exploration, participants will learn carving and printing techniques while experimenting with the creative possibilities of the medium Bring a sketch idea or create a design on the spot. All materials are provided, and no experience is required. Ages 14 and up.

About the instructor

Richard Tetrault’s wood and linoleum prints have been featured in books, magazines, posters, and theatrical presentations, as well as in exhibitions worldwide. His primary themes come from the immediate urban landscape, reflecting the varied forms of dynamics within it.

Raised on the West Coast of Canada, Richard Tetrault's studio work focuses on the shifting dynamics and transient nature of the contemporary landscape. He has shown and collaborated extensively in local and international exhibitions and mural projects, participating in print and painting exhibits in Japan, France, Thailand, Netherlands, China, Croatia, Argentina, the United States, Mexico, and Cuba as well as in other parts of Canada.

Richard's practice frequently includes engagement with community members, youth, marginalized groups and individuals to create murals that are collaborative, large-scale, and frequently interdisciplinary, delving into issues of contemporary concerns. As an educator, he has taught workshops in printmaking through Malaspina Printmakers Society, as an Artist-in-Residence for the Vancouver School Board, for ArtStarts in Schools Vancouver), and for the Faculty of Education at University of British Columbia. His studio is located in the Strathcona area of East Vancouver.
